How To Troubleshoot Your System For Memory Problems In Windows 7
Windows 7 includes built-in features to help you identify and diagnose problems with memory.
If you suspect a computer has a memory problem that isn’t being automatically detected, you can run the Windows Memory Diagnostics utility by completing the following steps:
Step 1: - Click Start, type mdsched.exe in the Search box, and then press Enter
Step 2: - Choose whether to restart the computer and run the tool immediately or schedule the tool to run at the next restart.
Windows Memory Diagnostics runs automatically after the computer restarts and performs a standard memory test automatically. If you want to perform fewer or more tests, press F1, use the Up and Down arrow keys to set the Test Mix as Basic, Standard, or Extended, and then press F10 to apply the desired settings and resume testing.
When testing is completed, the computer restarts automatically. You’ll see the test results when you log on.
Note that if a computer crashes because of failing memory, and Windows Memory Diagnostics detects this, the system will prompt you to schedule a memory test the next time the computer is restarted.

When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really
speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining ” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxre quests” to some number like 30. This
means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0?.
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
If you’re using a brodband connection you’ll load pages 2-3 times faster now.

Difference Between Kbps And KBPs
Lots of people have confusion between Kbps and KBps ,,,, Even he/she know the that Kbps means "Kilo bits per seconds" as a transfer rate.
KBps means "Kilo Bytes per second" as a transfer rate. even they are confused when they saw or listen 1mbps or 50 KBps because all data card or network provider mentions KBps or Mbps. so there's a lot difference between Kbps and KBps as i mentioned above .... :P
so
8 bits = 1 byte
256 kbps = 32 KBps
512 kbps = 64 KBps
1 mbps = 128 KBps
2 mbps = 256 KBps
now don't waste your time on calculating :P

Customize the Quick Launch Bar in Windows XP
In Windows XP, the customizable Quick Launch Bar also gives you convenient shortcuts to your favorite programs, folders, and files. The Quick Launch Bar remains accessible from most windows, so it’s a handy way to open the applications and files you use frequently.
If the Quick Launch Bar isn’t already visible to the right of the Start button
, you’ll need to turn it on. To do that, right-click an open area of the taskbar. Hover your mouse pointer over Toolbars, then click Quick Launch. The Quick Launch Bar appears on your taskbar.

The Quick Launch Bar on the Windows XP taskbar
To add a program shortcut to the Quick Launch Bar, click the Start button
, click All Programs, then click and drag the application you want to the Quick Launch Bar. Release the mouse button and the application’s icon appears in the Quick Launch Bar.
To add a folder or file shortcut to the Quick Launch Bar, open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder, subfolder, or individual file you want, click and drag the folder or file you want to the Quick Launch Bar. Release the mouse button and the icon for the folder or file appears in the Quick Launch Bar.
To remove a shortcut from the Quick Launch Bar, right-click on the icon in the Quick Launch Bar of the application, folder, or file you want to remove and right-click it, click Delete, and then click Yes when asked if you’re sure you want to delete the shortcut. Note: Although the shortcut is removed from the Quick Launch Bar, the actual application, folder, or file has not been deleted from your computer.

How can I increase my hard disk speed in Windows XP/2003?
To speed up your hard disk speed we need to configure a special buffer in the computer's memory in order to enable it to better deal with interrupts made from the disk.
This tip is only
recommended if you have 256MB RAM or higher.
Follow these
steps:
1.
Run SYSEDIT.EXE from the
Run command.
2.
Expand the system.ini
file window.
3.
Scroll down almost to
the end of the file till you find a line called [386enh].
4.
Press Enter to make one
blank line, and in that line type
Irq14=4096
Note: This line IS CASE SENSITIVE!!!
5.
Click on the File menu,
then choose Save.
6.
Close SYSEDIT and reboot
your computer.
Done. Speed
improvement will be noticed after the computer reboots.
Update: The most speed improvement is visible with IDE
drives, however there are reports that this tweak also does good for SCSI
disks. In any case, it won't harm your system, so why not try it yourself and
let me know what you find.

How can I increase my broadband connection speed in Windows XP/2003?
This tip is designed for increased BROADBAND speed in Windows XP while using standard Network Interface cards (NIC) that are connected to ADSL modems, or when using any directly-connected USB ADSL modem.
To speed up the
Internet connection speed we need to configure a special buffer in the
computer's memory in order to enable it to better deal with interrupts made
from the NIC or the USB modem.
This tip is only
recommended if you have 256MB RAM or higher.
Step #1 - Identify the IRQ used by the NIC/USB modem
Follow these
steps:
1.
Open the System
Information tool by running MSINFO32.EXE from the Run command.
2.
Expand System Summary
> Hardware Resources > IRQs.
3.
Look for the listing
made for your NIC (in my case - a Intel(R) PRO/100+ Management Adapter). Note
the IRQ next to the specified line (in my case - IRQ21).
In case of USB
modems you will first need to find the right USB device used by your modem.
Follow these steps:
1.
Open the Device Manager
tool by running DEVMGMT.MSC from the Run command (or by right-clicking My
Computer > Hardware tab > Device Manager button).
2.
Scroll down to Universal
Serial Bus controllers and expand it.
3.
Right-click the USB Root
Hub and select Properties. Note that you might need to do so for all listed USB
Root hubs (if there are more than one) in order to find the right one.
4.
In the Power tab, look
for your USB ADSL modem.
5.
In the Resources tab
look for the assigned IRQ (in this case - IRQ21).
6.
This is the IRQ we're
looking for.
Lamer note: IRQs and modem names might vary...
Step #2 - Modify the system.ini file
Follow these
steps:
1.
Run SYSEDIT.EXE from the
Run command.
2.
Expand the system.ini
file window.
3.
Scroll down almost to
the end of the file till you find a line called [386enh].
4.
Press Enter to make one
blank line, and in that line type
IrqX=4096
where X is the
designated IRQ number we found in step #1, in my case it's IRQ21.
Note: This line IS CASE SENSITIVE!!!
5.
Click on the File menu,
then choose Save.
6.
Close SYSEDIT and reboot
your computer.
Done. Speed
improvement will be noticed after the computer reboots.
Update: The most speed improvement is visible with USB A/DSL
modems, however there are reports that this tweak also does good for regular
NICs. In any case, it won't harm your system, so why not try it yourself and
let me know what you find.

How can I enable CD Burning in Windows Server 2003?
Windows Server 2003 has the CD burning drivers disabled by default. The IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service required by this peripheral device is disabled, so to make it work we need to enable it.
Note: With some third-party software, you may be able to burn CDs without starting the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service. BTW, some people say that it is recommended you leave this service disabled if you want to speed up the Nero Burning ROM startup. I haven't tested this myself so I cannot say for sure.
Lamer Note: Yes, you DO have to have a CD burner installed or else this tweak will be useless for you. It DOES NOT turn a standard CD Drive into a CD-R or CD-RW...
To have CD burning capabilities on Windows Server 2003 follow the next steps:
- Go to the Services applet in Administrative Tools (or click Start, then Run, and type "services.msc" (without quotes) and click OK).
- Find the "IMAPI CD-burning COM" service, right-click and select Properties, select "Automatic" instead of "Disabled" in the startup type box.
- Click Apply.
- Right-click the "IMAPI CD-burning COM" service and select Start.
- Click OK.

Increase the FileSystem Memory Cache Size in Vista
I’ve always wondered why Windows doesn’t allow you to set an arbitrary size for the filesystem cache. What if you have a slow hard drive in your laptop, but loads of available system memory? Shouldn’t you be able to maximize that memory in order to speed up hard drive access?
I’ve found a slightly documented tweak that will allow you to tell Windows to use more cache for the NTFS “pool”, which should increase performance if your system opens and closes a lot of files all the time like mine does.
According to the Microsoft documentation:
Increasing physical memory does not always increase the amount of paged pool memory available to NTFS. Setting memoryusage to 2 raises the limit of paged pool memory. This might improve performance if your system is opening and closing many files in the same file set and is not already using large amounts of system memory for other applications or for cache memory. If your computer is already using large amounts of system memory for other applications or for cache memory, increasing the limit of NTFS paged and non-paged pool memory reduces the available pool memory for other processes. This might reduce overall system performance.
I’ll be testing this change out myself, and I really hope to get feedback from our excellent readers on this one. Please note that I’ve not run any benchmarks yet, so I can’t confirm yet that this yields any major benefit in real-world performance.
Command Line Hack
Open up an Administrator mode command prompt by right-clicking and choosing Run as Administrator, or type in cmd into the start menu search box and use Ctrl+Shift+Enter.
Type in the following command to increase the cache setting:
fsutil behavior set memoryusage 2
To check the current value, type in this command:
fsutil behavior query memoryusage
To change the setting back to the default, use this command:
fsutil behavior set memoryusage 1
As always, these “slightly” documented settings can screw up your system, so perform at your own risk. Also, you’ll likely have to reboot the machine to see any difference.
Manual Registry Hack
You can also set this value by changing a registry parameter. Open up regedit.exe through the start menu search or run box, and then navigate down to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
Double-click on the NtfsMemoryUsage key on the right-hand side and change the value to 2. Here’s the available values:
- Not Set: 0
- Set to Default: 1
- Increase Cache: 2
According to the documentation the default setting is “1″, but by default the key is set to “0″. Typically in that scenario the setting of “0″ means “Not Set”, which means the system uses the default setting. You should be able to change the value to either “0″ or “1″ in order to change this back to default.
This setting also works in Windows Server 2003.
